A Serving of Humble Pie

This summer I decided to go to a new hairdresser to chop my hair off & get it lightened up a bit. If you've ever had your hair colored then you know that it can be a pretty lengthy process. Lots of chair & chat time. Since this was my first time meeting this new hairdresser, we had a lot to talk about & learn about each other. She was very impressed that I'm 26 & have my masters, been working at the same school for four years, own my car & my house, am in the process of training Piper to be a therapy dog, etc. & all while being single. She was totally hyping me up! I left that hair appointment feeling pretty great — loving my new hair & pretty proud of all of my accomplishments.

That evening when I sat down to do my daily Bible recap, I got served a HUGE helping of humble pie. I read Ezekiel 28-30 & the wrap up of the daily reading said this:

"God hates human pride — not because He's envious of what we've got (after all, He gave it to us!), but because it's built on a lie. We are not gods. He is. While we may be powerful, we aren't powerful on our own; our strength is from Him. While we may be wise, we aren't wise on our own; He is the source of all wisdom. While we may be beautiful, we aren't beautiful on our own; He invented DNA. He's the rightful object of praise for all our beauty, wisdom, position, might, height, you name it. God should be the target of our praise and gratitude. Giving praise to Him helps eradicate the pride He hates so much, and it focuses our eyes on our Father! And He's where the joy is!"

While all of those things are really great accomplishments & I am proud of them, I definitely needed to be reminded that I don't have any of these things on my own, I have them because of Him!
