monday morning mindfulness: small things, big joy

I am so thankful for this online community & I want to be a little more intentional about chatting about things, encouraging one another, & reminding each other that many of us are probably feeling similar things, or have at different times. These monday morning mindfulness posts are going to be little glimpses into my heart & life: the good, the bad & the ugly. So much can be learned from different experiences, especially when you are practicing mindfulness.

With all of that being said, today’s topic is: small things, big joy.

My sister took this picture of Piper recently, & although I love every single picture of Piper I’ve EVER seen, this one is different. Piper is the first dog I’ve ever had (so of course she’ll always have the most special place in my heart), but having her has made me realize just how joyful dogs really are. She is ALWAYS happy to see me & other people, happy to play fetch or go for a walk, happy to snuggle on the couch, happy to go to obedience class, happy to eat treats, happy to lay in a sun spot, etc.

As silly as it sounds, I want to be more like Piper — in the sense that she’s just always joyful lol so I decided to come up with a list of small things that bring big joy. I’ll share my tentative list below:

  • The warmth of the sun on my face

  • Going for a walk with Piper

  • Butterflies

  • Fresh cut grass

  • A good skin day

  • Eating at my grandma’s house

  • Sleeping in freshly washed sheets

  • The smell of a coffee shop

  • Rainy or snowy weather

  • Laughing with my friends & family

  • Fresh flowers

  • A good hair day

  • Listening to my favorite music & podcasts

  • Eating at my mom’s house

  • Random sweet comments

  • Waking up without my alarm clock

  • The smell of laundry

  • Our family group chat

  • The feeling after a shower

  • Sunsets & sunrises

  • Lighting a candle

  • Changing into my comfies after work

  • Matching pajama sets

  • Manis & pedis
