On the bookshelf from September

This past month I only had time to read ONE book for fun! *insert crying emoji here* The rest of my "reading time" has been spent with my nose in this Study Guide for the National Counselor Examination & CPCE book. To make a long story short, I have my provisional license which is what allows me to be a school counselor, but now that I'm getting closer to graduating, my university requires that I take the CPCE. This book has been beyond challenging & overwhelming, but by far one of the most useful tools I have for this study process. I know I have some school counselors in-the-making following the blog so I thought I would share in case this could be useful for any of you!

The "for fun" book that I read this month was The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog: & Other Stories From A Child Psychiatrist's Notebook -- What Traumatized Children Can Teach Us About Loss, Love, & Healing. I put the words "for fun" in quotations because reading this book was not as enjoyable as many of the other ones I've read in the past! However, this book educated me & told many great stories that I think about on a daily basis when interacting with my middle school students. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in the helping profession, or anyone who wants to learn more about trauma & its impact on the brain. Absolutely fascinating & horrifying all at the same time.

Have you ever heard of the “goodreads” app? It’s a free app that lets you track your reading progress, rate books you’ve read, keep a list of your want-to-read books, set yearly reading goals & follow along with what your friends are reading as well! It even gives you suggestions based off of your ratings & the types of books you read. We both really like it. You should check it out!
